Our nominated charity this year
is Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to help support Nick Tucker’s
efforts to raise money for the charity during the year of his captaincy of St
George’s Hill Golf Club. Nick, as CEO of
Waverton Investment Management, has been a great
supporter of this competition in recent years so I am only too happy to help
him with his cause this year.
This is what Nick had to say about
CRY: -
CRY is a fantastic charity, based in
Leatherhead and tackles an issue that has sadly impacted a
number of families of St George’s Hill Members. Ollie Tucker the son of
my older brother passed away on the hockey pitch from previously undetected
heart condition 15 years ago in his first term at Oxford. So
thank you for helping me to raise funds for this worthy cause.
25% of entry fees directed will go
directly to CRY and Waverton Investment Management
will again be kindly donating an additional £2,000. I am hoping we can reach a new record total
for this Masters competition. Please do spread the word amongst your friends
and family!
A bit more information on CRY.
Every week in the
UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its
formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce
the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). CRY supports young people
diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers
bereavement support to families affected by YSCD. CRY promotes and develops
heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and
distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public. CRY funds specialist referral, screening and
cardiac pathology services at leading UK hospitals.
