Our
nominated charity will be Glass Door Homeless Charity. We supported this charity in 2021 and it is now time for us to support it again. It is a sad and shameful fact that many of us
that work in London have to walk past (and sometimes step over) those that find
themselves sleeping rough on our streets in dreadful conditions. It is also
probably underappreciated that some find themselves in this position via a
sequence of bad breaks in life and often they just need a helping hand to get
themselves back into normal life. Back
in 2021 I was lucky to hear some personal testimonies of those that have been
helped by the charity. The charity is
fully independent and not a beneficiary of Government assistance. It ticks the box for being a small charity
for which our modest contribution might make a meaningful difference.
About
Glass Door
Our vision
is a future where no one experiences homelessness in London. We offer advice,
shelter and support with our community partners, helping people build a route
out of homelessness. Year-round, people find advice and support to end their
homelessness through trained caseworkers based at partnering drop-in centres.
During the hard months of winter, Glass Door also provides emergency winter
night shelter. We work with guests to secure housing, a bank account and ID;
access benefits and healthcare, resolve their insecure immigration status and
refer them to the specialist services.
