Masters 2023

The final result

Well that was exciting!   Congratulations to Jon RAHM.  Great to see another European win at Augusta.  Seve’s birthday?  It was meant to be.

Ian McCartan was the leader last night and he continued to stay near the top of the leaderboard all day.  As is often the case, it came down to the last group on the last green. But KOEPKA shaved the hole with his birdie putt which means that Ian McCartan and I tied and will share the top 2 prizes.  Having not got close to winning anything in my own competitions ever before, it is crazy that I managed to win jointly in such a massive field.  By the way, my hole selection was random and it turned out to be the best out of 2642 entries.

I’m especially pleased to win some money because, as I have always said, if I did win, the money would go to the charity.  That means the charity donation to Cardiac Risk in the Young gets boosted by an extra £2625 and will now be £11,523.

Behind the two leaders was a large group for whom the fortunes were oscillating violently over the closing holes. I will send you all the prize money information in the morning.

Thanks for playing and supporting the charity. An email summary is going out around midday on Monday.

What a finish we are watching!

Mickelson unbelievable - only 11 picks in our competition

Quick update as we enter the last few holes

2 Missed Cuts - Shippy1988
3 Missed Cuts - Ian Robinson

Words fail me

Sunday Prize

Mark Rumbelow goes 6 under today in the Sunday contest (McIlroy bogeys excluded)

This has never happened before, I promise

Round 4 tees off at 5.30pm UK time

David Greenhaigh (1) and Ian McCarten lead the table in the race for the big prize.
Birdies already in round 4 for Tristan Allen and Alex V 1

Saturday winner

Congratulations to Jacqueline Baker - she wins the Saturday prize with 6 birdies from just 4 golfers. Just shows you can still win money having lost players to the cut - and with a random entry!

Near end of Round 3

Hope you are enjoying your Easter Sunday. We have a house full and there is a lot of excitement (for some) on the shape of the main leaderboard and the Saturday table. We have the Bakers (mum and daughter) doing very well. There does appear to have been some changed scores to affect Winner.Dinner.Chicken21. Sometimes the feeds we get from the course are incorrect and they get amended in time. Sorry about that.

Tiger is OUT!

Unfortunately Tiger WOODS has withdrawn from the Masters. This affects 113 people.

He had played 7 holes of his 3rd round and he didn’t look in any shape to play 29 holes on Sunday.

So unfortunately holders of WOODS will get bogeys for his remaining holes.  These will be reflected when we start play today

Very bad luck.  Sorry

Looking like a long weekend for #JKcharity HQ

Mrs K will not be pleased.

Excitement in #JKcharity HQ

Round 3 - data coming through

Apologies for delay
Some glitches being sorted - stand by

Well backed golfers that missed the cut

Rory McIlroy 1,579 picks
Justin Thomas 587
Corey Conners 240
Min Woo Lee 124
Bryson Dechambeau 103
Louis Oosthuizen 106 (withdrew)

The Cut statistics

547 people have taken 6 golfers into the final 2 rounds
1336 lost 1 golfer to the cut - they all join the '1 Missed Cut' table
631 lost 2 golfers to the cut - they all join the '2 Missed Cuts' table
128 lost 3 or more golfers to the cut - they all join the '3+ Missed Cuts' table
2 people lost 5 to the cut and I person (Wrong Hole) lost all 6 - the only good news is that his score cannot get any worse.
These tables will up on the site shortly

Easy game - just pick the best golfers (?)

Coppy 4 picked the best golfers: NIELMAN, KOEPKA, RAHM, CANTLAY, SPIETH and MORIKAWA. He was the only person to pick those 6.

Unfortunately that leaves Ian in 1151st place!

Friday prize all depends on Cameron SMITH on 18th

Smith bogeys so its a 4-way tie for the Friday prize between Steve Masters 1, Sp1, Matt Conroy and Matt Burgess 2

Well done.

THOMAS is out

THOMAS bogeys 17 to save WOODS an then bogeys 18 to miss the cut himself. The second golfer to do a 'walk and talk' interview and miss the cut.

Matt Burgess leading the Fiiday prize

A birdie for Matt takes him into the outright lead for the Friday prize and into joint 2nd on the main table.
Meanwhile Luke Bolus 1 is now leading the Pars competition

Wrong Hole looks suspiciously like an entry to win the bogey prize - trouble is, he has 6 golfers that will miss the cut, so no more bogeys there I'm afraid. There are quite a few entries not far behind that got almost as many bogeys without trying!

OOSTHUIZEN withdraws

Louis OOSTHUIZEN has withdrawn after playing 17 holes. He was +7 so was about to miss the cut anyway but it does mean that 25 owners will score a bogey for him on the 18th. Bad luck.

Back underway

Sandy LYLE comes back to finish off his last Masters on the 18th green. Hope he warmed up properly before his last 2 strokes.
WOODS has to hit the 12th hole tee shot as his first shot - and shoots to 3 feet - and this misses the birdie. 20 people robbed there.

Good morning

Suspension of play meant I got a decent night's sleep last night for first time in a few days but it does mean we get extra golf today (weather permitting of course).

Remiss of me not to mention our new joint leaders David Greenhaigh (1) and Richard Ferris on 13 under. Richard has 5 holes left to play and they both look to have golfers that will make the cut.

Weather closing in

It looks like play is over for the day? Also scenes of a tree falling near the 16th very close to spectators?

WE WILL RESUME TOMORROW!!

Missed Cuts

Just yesterday we were saying that there were no big names looking like they would miss the cut. And then suddenly Rory shoots 77. Meanwhile it looks like Mickelson, Woods, Zach Johnson, Dustin Johnson and a few amateurs (Bennett, Moore, Fox) are all through to the weekend.

For new players in this contest, players that miss the cut will score bogeys for you over the weekend. Those will be put into your scorecards on Saturday and will likely alter the shape of the leader board materially from how it looks on Friday evening.

If you are unlucky to have lost 1 or more to the cut, don't worry - you can still win prizes.

The prizes for Saturday and Sunday EXCLUDE missed cut bogeys. So, for example, if you only lost McIlroy to the cut, your score for the Saturday prize will only depend on the scoring of your other 5 golfers.

Also, we have league tables for all the entries with 1 Missed Cut, 2 Missed Cuts and 3 (or more) Missed Cuts. Again missed cut bogeys are excluded.

So plenty still to play for!

Glitches

Sorry a few glitches on the Alerts and on that main table - just trying to fix.

Apologies for the erroneously labelled scoring alerts and missing hole count on the leaderboard. It looks like it is now rectified.

And very pleased to see the golfers back out on the course.

Who would pick an amateur?

But Sam Bennet(A) is in 8th position on 4 under par. One person picked him Roger Dore 2 sitting nicely on 5 under par

Friday prize

Rippers2, Wilbert Gorman and Andrew Bennet (1) are all 4under today. Andrew has only played 5 holes.

New Leader - David Greenhalgh (1)

12 under with 3 birdies today on 2, 3 and 4

Pikey Pars

Jamespike2 is leading the charge for pars - 20 in total

Friday Prize

Patrick Luong is 3 under today and racing for that daily prize of £655. Friday table

Joanne Bryant

Joanne moves to 10 under for a share of the lead thanks to a KOEPKA birdie on the 2nd

Kevin NA - judges ruling

There were 10 unlucky people that picked Kevin NA who decided to withdraw after 9 holes. They get bogeys for his missed holes for the rest of the tournament (ugh).
Note that for the purposes of the Bogey prize, missed cut bogeys (in rounds 3 and 4) do not count.
We will also exclude bogeys scored by NA in rounds 1 and 2 EXCEPT for those he actually scored on the front 9 of the 1st round.
Just clarifying.

I love that MCILROY chat on the course!! More please PGA.

Sam BURNS 4 under par for the 1st 3 holes

Sam BURNS makes a record start to the Masters - birdie-eagle-birdie over the first 3 holes.

Peter Rutter and Bob's Bandits had him on all 3 holes

Hovland

My granddaughter (aged 5) comment on Hovland's shirt "What was he thinking?"
Seeing me watch the golf on TV, she also asked me, "is that your golf tournament Grandad?" "Yes", I said.

Corry Daniels

Can you believe this guy? Dan Corry, last year's runner up and who featured in one of our pre-competition videos is in a share of the lead on 8 under. Unbelievable.

Kevin NA bogey count

ZALATORIS replacements

There 438 picks of ZALATORIS. Those have been changed to:-
SCHAUFFELE 349
JOHNSON 81
CANTLAY 6
FINAU 2 (had to go lower to avoid entries having a total rating of more than 25)
The site will very shortly reflect those new line ups.

The vast majority will be very happy with that given that SCHAUFFELE is 5 under as I type.
Them's the rules folks.

ZALATORIS withdraws

Will ZALATORIS has withdrawn but before he begins play. IN this instance (unlike for Kevin NA earlier who withdrew after 9 holes), he will be replaced with another golfer as per the rules of the competition.
If one of your selected golfers withdraws before play begins and you don’t have a chance to change your entry, your golfer will be replaced by the next available golfer on the list of the same rating (first moving down the list and then if necessary up the list).

A very annoying scenario for the 438 people that picked him.
I will process the change and send out an email as soon as the site is updated. Bear with me please.

Kevin NA withdraws

NA has withdrawn after the front 9 due to feeling unwell. After shooting 40 on 9 holes, no wonder.
I am afraid that is very bad news for the 10 people that picked him. He will score bogeys for the rest of the competition. That is very tough, sorry.
