Our nominated charity is Marie Curie

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity. It provides frontline nursing and hospice care, a free support line and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.

It’s not a pleasant thought but it’s a fact of life that most of us will probably get to the point when we can benefit from the help that Marie Curie provides.  My family greatly appreciated the help that Marie Curie gave us during the last weeks of my father’s life last year.  He had expressed a wish to stay at home, rather than go to a hospice, and this was only possible due to the incredible generosity of the Marie Curie night nurses and the help provided by the community nurses and local hospice.  So this is a cause which is very personal to me and my family and I am very happy that we will be able to raise a significant amount to help them continue their great work.

Marie Curie's Vision

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, many people have unexpectedly been affected by the loss of someone close to them. Dying has suddenly become a front-of-mind issue for us all.

Even before the pandemic, we had an ageing population. By 2040, it’s predicted that the number of people in the UK aged 85+ will double from 1.6 million to 3.2 million. People are living longer with multiple conditions. This means a ‘tsunami’ of demand for end of life care and support is expected over the next decade.

Our strategy is focused on long-term, sustainable impact and our ambition is for everyone to have the best possible end of life experience, including all the things that are important to people at the end of their life.
